Water Use Efficiency Grant for Educators
Do you have a project you’d like to do with your students but haven’t been able to secure funding?
The Utilities Department is offering a Water Use Efficiency Grant, up to $5,000 per project for each school year. This grant is for projects that relate to water which include, but are not limited to, water use efficiency, water quality, water distribution, and water reclamation. There is limited funding set aside for this program so apply as soon as possible.
How do you apply?
It’s easy; follow these steps:
- Complete the Grant Proposal Form. Give us an idea of the type of project you’d like to fund. For example, do you want to take your students on a tour of a wastewater treatment plant and need funding for the bus? Do you want to conduct water quality testing and need funding for supplies? Include the purpose of your project, short- and long-term goals, and an estimated project budget. Projects outside the box but that are related to water use efficiency are highly encouraged.
- Submit your completed Grant Proposal Form to the Water Resources Team:
By E-mail – StopTheDrop@CoronaCA.gov
By Mail – 755 Public Safety Way, Corona, CA 92878
- Our Water Resources Team will review your proposal.
- If your proposal is not approved you will receive a letter from us explaining why.
- If your proposal is approved you will receive an award notification letter and a funding agreement that needs to be signed by the school district.
- Route two copies of the funding agreement to the school district for signature and return the original documents to our Water Resources Team by mail.
- We will sign the funding agreement and send you a copy for your records.
- Once we have a fully signed and executed agreement we will distribute 50% of your grant funding to the school district.
- Now the fun part: do your project, implement your program, conduct your tour!
- Once your project is completed please submit a final report to our Water Resources Team with a summary of how the grant funding was spent and what your students gained from the experience. If applicable, please include pictures, reports, or any other back up documentation you feel appropriate.
- Our Water Resources Team will review your final report.
- We will provide the final 50% of the funding to the school district.
If you have any questions along the way, please contact our Water Resources Team at (951) 736-2234 or by email at StopTheDrop@CoronaCA.gov
Attention Corona Pre-K–12 Educators: Free Water Education Programs
Would you like to have an exciting and creative way to teach your students about our water supply, water quality and resource conservation?
The City of Corona Utilities Department has partnered with the Riverside - Corona Resource Conservation District (RCRCD) to offer free classroom presentations and materials about water. On behalf of the City, a Resource Educator from RCRCD will visit your school to conduct a hands-on classroom program that demonstrates water concepts and helps students learn about using water with care.
The presentation answers the following questions:
- What is the water cycle?
- What is a watershed, a waterway, and an underground water basin?
- Where does Corona get its water?
- What are storm water pollutants?
Students will learn simple ways to:
- conserve water in and around a home, and
- reduce the amount of pollutants that enter our storm drain system and waterways, including washes, creeks, arroyos and ultimately the Santa Ana River.
Educating students about these concepts helps to ensure that future generations will understand the importance of water as a vital resource and form lifelong habits that ensure its responsible use and care.
If you would like to schedule a presentation, please complete the form or contact Roxanne Robbins at (951) 683-7691 Ext. 216, or Robbins@rcrcd.org.
