MAY – CHILDHOOD DROWNING PREVENTION MONTH
CORONA, CA– The month of May is Childhood Drowning Prevention Month and the Corona Fire Department would like to increase awareness to help save lives as warmer weather approaches.
Drowning is the leading cause of death for children under the age of 5. In 2023, 1,803 children under the age of 18 died from drowning in the United States. The city of Corona is not immune from the impact of these types of incidents. These heartbreaking statistics have prompted the CFD to team up with the Childhood Drowning Prevention Foundation to make a difference in our community. Through community outreach and education, water safety messaging, and swim lesson scholarships, the foundation is making our community a safer place.
The Corona Fire Department invites you to help bring awareness of drowning prevention to every member of our community. Beginning May 1st, we will begin social media messaging for drowning prevention, water safety, and hands-only CPR. This messaging will bring valuable knowledge on drowning prevention to every home, arming people with the education needed to save a life. We encourage all community members to share our messaging to ensure that the information is spread throughout our community.
If you would like to learn more about drowning prevention you can visit the Childhood Drowning Prevention Foundation’s website at www.childhooddrowningpreventionfoundation.org. For residents looking to learn CPR visit our website at www.CoronaCA.gov/CPR.
