On June 5th, Corona’s City Council voted unanimously to enroll eligible City utility accounts into SCE’s Community Renewables Program in collaboration with PowerMarket. This means the City will save money on energy every month and use clean energy without installing solar panels on any municipal buildings. Eligible residents are encouraged to join the savings!
The City also started the Corona Community Solar program to help residents use solar energy without installing individual panels. This program, managed by Southern California Edison (SCE) and PowerMarket, allows residents to get solar energy from a large solar farm in Inyokern, CA. Each month, residents get solar credits on their SCE account, reducing their bill. They only pay 90% of the value of the credit, saving 10% each month.
This program is perfect for renters, people in multi-family homes, those with unsuitable roofs, and anyone interested in renewable energy. It supports California’s goals to reduce carbon emissions and increase renewable energy use. Participants don’t need to change their current electricity plans and can keep their existing rates with SCE. The City will use letters, digital media, and community workshops to inform people about the program.
Enrollment is now open. To join, residents can visit powermarket.io/corona.html, call PowerMarket at (661) 443-0452, or email dimension@powermarket.io. This program benefits both the community and the environment.
