Occasionally during the summer months, raw (untreated) water that supplies Corona’s surface water treatment plants comes from different zones of our supplier’s reservoir, Lake Mathews. At times, this change in zones, in conjunction with the warmer weather will begin the process of stratification or layering. Stratification can prevent lakes from mixing and aerating properly, which can cause the water aesthetics (taste and odor) to change. While seasonal source water changes are normal, usually they occur gradually. In this case, the change was sudden, therefore more noticeable.
Rest assured that Corona's drinking water continues to meet state and federal standards and is safe to consume.
