The Corona Fire Department Fire Explorers Program (Post 360) accepts interest cards year around. Once submitted, you will be contacted via email in December. The post only accepts new members once a year in January. Due to a high volume of interest cards received, we ask that you refrain from contacting the Corona Fire Headquarters for an update on your application and wait to be contacted from the program organizers.

The City of Corona Fire Explorer Post 360 is comprised of young adults who are eager to gain real life experiences, training, and exposure to the career opportunities of the fire service.

About the Fire Explorer Program

The program was formed with combined efforts from the City of Corona Fire Department and Learning for Life to meet the needs and concerns of the next generation of citizens. The support of the Corona Fire Safety Foundation, as well as the Corona Firefighter's Association, have been a crucial part of Post 360's history. Young men and women are voluntarily brought into the association with adults to build character, citizenship, education, knowledge, and the promotion of physical and mental health.

Explorer's must be between 15 and 20 years of age, maintain a 2.0 grade point average, and have a professional appearance to participate. The explorers develop their knowledge in the classroom as well as the drill grounds with hands on training. Explorers will also have many opportunities to help within the community at a variety of events.

If you or someone you know is interested in joining the post, please fill out an Interest Card and we will contact you with recruitment information during our next application phase which will be held once a year in the winter.

Candidates on our interest list will be contacted for an interview at which time a completed and legible application packet as well as a updated resume will be required. Upon completion of the examination process the candidate will be given additional information on what he/she needs to acquire for their uniform, and may start coming to our meetings to participate in training. The candidate will need to provide the post with $30.00 which is required to register them with the Learning for Life organization.

Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month beginning at 6:30 p.m. and completing at around 9:00 p.m., as well as the third Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. and completing at around noon. Explorers are expected to attend at least 75% of the scheduled meetings, and are encouraged to attend as many as possible for their own benefit as well as their squads and the entire Post. If an Explorer is not able to attend a meeting, they are required to call in before the start of that meeting.

Pending good attendance and attitude, the explorer may be issued their own safety gear (excluding helmet). At this time the Explorer will also be awarded their post shoulder patches to place on their uniform shirts and may begin working on their 'Career Achievement Award'. Explorers who complete their packet may be eligible for the Ride Along Program, in which they can work a shift, train, and respond to emergencies with the CFD.

Explorers are encouraged to advance in the ranks of the Post. Post 360 runs an IFSTA based curriculum designed to prepare them for the Fire Academy. Explorers can promote to Lieutenant, Captain, and finally Chief. Each progressive rank requires more skills, knowledge, and dedication than the previous one, and thus is that much more rewarding.
