SB 1383 Cart Transition
Residential Customers
Effective July 1, 2024, Corona residents will be billed by WM for trash and recycling services. For details about this billing transition please click here. For questions or assistance with your trash services, please contact WM Customer Care Center at 1-800-423-9986.
Three-Cart Collection System
Corona single-family residential customers are provided with three 96-gallon carts: one for trash, one for commingled recyclables, and one for organic waste. All trash, recyclables and organic waste are collected on the same service day once per week (to determine your service day, please click here).
**Please note that the carts pictured above are the new carts that will be transitioned in over the next few years, please see below for more information

Trash Services
All trash should be place inside the black 96-gallon cart. The only materials that should be placed in the black trash cart are those that are non-recyclable and non-organic materials.
Items Accepted in the Trash Cart include:
• Diapers
• Plastic Bags
• Latex Gloves
• Plastic Wrapping
• Plastic Utensils
• Palm Fronds
• Pet Waste
• Styrofoam
• Broken Glass
• Snack/Candy Wrappers
• Juice & Soup Boxes
Items NOT Accepted in the Trash Cart include:
• Recyclables
• Organic Waste
• Hazardous Waste
Looking to reduce your plastic bag usage?
Rather than paying 10 cents for plastic bags at the grocery store for bags that will end up in the trash, reach out to the Solid Waste & Recycling Division to request some reusable grocery totes!
Availability of these totes for Corona residents are on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to three per household. To request some reusable grocery totes, email us at CoronaRecycles@CoronaCA.gov!
Recycling Services
Commingled recyclable material should be placed loosely in the blue 96-gallon cart. All material must be inside the cart. Any items outside of the cart, on top of the cart’s closed lid, or left on the street will not be collected.
Items Accepted in the Recycling Cart include:
• Paper Products
• Cardboard – empty & flat
• Plastic #1-2, and #5
• Steel & aluminum cans
• Glass Containers - unbroken
Items NOT Accepted in the Recycling Cart include:
• Plastic Bags
• Styrofoam
• Trash
• Organic Waste (including food soiled paper, napkins, and tissues)
• Hazardous Waste
Organic Waste Services
Items Accepted in the Organic Waste Cart include:• Lawn clippings, leaves and weeds.
• Small cuttings from bushes and shrubs.
• Branches and limbs which have been cut up to fit in the cart.
• Food scraps, including but not limited to, raw or cooked food scraps, frozen food without packaging, vegetables, meat & seafood, bones & shells, dairy, bread, grains, pasta, eggshells, teabags, and coffee grinds.
• Food-soiled paper products, such as pizza boxes, uncoated paper plates, paper napkins, paper towels, egg cartons, bamboo, and wooden chopsticks.
Items NOT Accepted in the Green Waste Cart include:
• Regular garbage
• Treated or painted wood
• Manure or animal waste
• Palm fronds/cactus or other succulents
• Coated paper materials
• Plastic
• Dirt, sod, or rocks
• Concrete
• Ashes
• Glass
• Styrofoam
• Metal
Compostable Bags
Feel free to use paper bags to collect your organic waste. However, plastic bags and compostable/biodegradable cannot go in the green waste bin.
Tree Trimmings: Bundles of tree trimmings that will not fit into your green waste cart can be collected by using one of your annual bulky item pick-ups. Please contact Waste Management for more information at (800) 423-9986.
Countertop Kitchen Caddies: A kitchen caddy is an optional container that can be placed under your kitchen sink, on your countertop, or another convenient area for your household to use for the collection of food scraps.
Availability of kitchen caddies for Corona residents are on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to one per household. To request a kitchen caddy, please contact the Solid Waste & Recycling Division at (951) 736-2234 or by email at CoronaRecycles@CoronaCA.gov.
Collection Information
Cart Placement
- Carts should be placed in the street or alley with the lids closed.
- The wheels of the cart should be against the curb.
- Carts should be placed at least three feet from each other and at least seven feet away from any obstructions such as vehicles, mailboxes or fire hydrants.
- Per § 8.20.050(E) of the Corona Municipal Code, no receptacle is to be placed curbside more than 24 hours before, nor remain longer than 24 hours after, the scheduled time of collection.
Please Note: The maximum weight of a 96-gallon cart is 180 pounds and 100 pounds for a 64-gallon cart. To avoid a cart from being partially emptied, please do not compress the contents. This may restrict the automated collection system from completely discharging all materials.

SB 1383 Cart Transition
SB 1383 requires specific colors for waste collection containers: trash containers must be grey or black (or have a grey or black lid), recycling containers must be blue (or have a blue lid), and organic waste containers must be green (or have a green lid). In additional, all new containers must be clearly labeled with what does and does not go into them. The transition to these new containers will be completed by 2036.
If any of your existing carts are missing, damaged, or broken they can be replaced with an SB 1383 compliant cart. To request a replacement, please contact Waste Management at (800) 423-9986.
