Community Services Volunteer Opportunities

The Community Services Department includes the only opportunities within the City of Corona for those under the age of 18. There are single day and ongoing volunteer opportunities.

Single Day Volunteer Opportunities

These include annual special events like the Summer Concert series, Fourth of July Parade, Festival, Halloweekend, and the Holiday Lighting celebration. Regular opportunities for single day participation include Corona Beautiful Community Cleanups that are open to participants of all ages.

Neighborhood Cleanup Kits

Request a free cleanup kit from the City of Corona! Just let us know where you will be working, and how much trash you collect after each service day. Each kit includes a trash picker, bags, gloves, safety vests, and disposal instructions. Request yours today!

Long-term Volunteer Opportunities

To join long-term volunteer opportunities for the Community Services Department, you must first attend an orientation. Orientations are typically held on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 pm in the Corona Public Library’s Francis Aldama Martinez Community Rooms.

Please note: All prospective volunteers must pass a background check, including those under 18. This process can take 4-6 weeks. Please plan ahead. The City of Corona cannot accept court-referred or school-mandated volunteers who need to complete their hours to meet disciplinary requirements.

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, if you need special assistance to participate in this orientation, please contact the ADA Coordinator at 951-739-4823. Notification 48 hours prior to the event will enable the City to make reasonable arrangements to ensure accessibility to this program.

The following opportunities available to the ongoing Community Service Department volunteers. An ongoing volunteer has completed the City of Corona's application process. Brown Bag “Feeding America” Program (18+)

Assisting senior center staff with the distribution of groceries to qualifying seniors from the community. Requires a monthly commitment on the second Wednesday of the month from 8am to 12pm. Able-bodied volunteers that can lift 25-50lbs.

Greeter (18+)

Welcome guests with a smile, connect visitors to basic information and answer directional questions at the facility.

Library

Corona Adult Literacy Services Tutors (18+)

Tutors an English-speaking adult whose limited literacy is a challenge to their lives.
Topics include but are not limited to basic reading, writing, speaking, numerical skills, technological literacy and financial literacy for adults.

Book Cleaning Crew
(Teens Only)

Work with other peers to brighten up some “well-loved” books before the library’s open hours on Saturdays.

Friends of the Corona Public Library
(18+)

The Friends of the Corona Public Library is a non-profit organization located within the library building that hosts events and book sales to fund raise for the library’s events. Duties include a position in sorting, pricing, and selling materials in the bookshop.

Homework Center Coordinator
(18+)
During CNUSD school year

Lead teen and adult volunteers during the weekly homework help center for elementary aged children in K-6th grade. Currently open Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30 pm.

Homework Helper
(12+)

Assist children in K-6th grade with their homework assignments either one-on-one or in a group. Currently open Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30 pm.

Junior Page (15+)

Join our team of Junior Pages and ensure our library patrons can easily find the books they're looking for! Help us keep our shelves organized and accessible by checking for proper placement. No shelving required!

Heritage Room Assistant
(18+)

Specializes in the acquisition, preservation, and use of research materials that document the cultural and environmental history of the Corona area.
‍Manuscript Paper Counter: Assist processing the manuscript collection. The volunteer will process the collection by counting the sheets of paper in each folder.

Summer at Your Library Assistant (13+)

Assist patrons of all ages enroll in the Summer Reading Challenge. Volunteers will hand out flyers and information, help participants log minutes, and claim prizes at the SAYL booth. Additional opportunities may be available for specific programs and events.

Storyteller
English or Bilingual
(15+)

Read stories quietly and informally to small groups of children in the Children's Room on a regularly scheduled basis.

Story Time Assistant
(16+)

Assist library staff with weekly early literacy storytimes for children ages 0-5. Volunteers will be responsible for monitoring child behavior, encouraging a safe learning environment, following storytime procedures, interacting with children and caregivers, and modeling literacy practices by actively participating in storytime.

Tech Coach
(15+)

Help patrons in the use of computers and other gadgets at the reference desk. Scheduling required.

Teen Club
7th-12th Grade

This is a flexible volunteer opportunity for teens to support the Library’s programs and services. Volunteers may select to support library special events and programs, write book reviews, or attend public meetings hosted by the Library Board of Trustees. Teen Club will also provide the opportunity for volunteers to meet up once a quarter to hear about upcoming library events and network.

Veterans Connect @ the Library (18+)

Benefit coaches work onsite connecting veterans and their families to resources. Also recruiting an Outreach Specialist to work with partners and advisory groups to participate in veterans' events programs in the community.

Senior Center

Class/Activity Coordinator
(18+)

Position is designed for a Volunteer who can commit the time to design and run their own activity at the Corona Senior Center. Recruiting a Computer Basics and Senior Exercise Class Instructor. Recruiting a Women's Exercise Instructor.

Senior Nutrition Program Assistant (18+)

Help the Corona Senior Center host their hot lunch program for seniors! Shifts are available Monday through Friday from 11:15 am to 1:30 pm. Tasks include setup, greeting, and serving food to participants.

Corona Parks

Adopt a Park (Group Opportunity)

Opportunity for groups who would like to commit to a Corona Park for independent cleanup and maintenance. Adopting groups commit to 2-6 service days in a six-month period, park adoption signs are added to the park after the first completed service day.

Park Ambassador
(18+)

Long term opportunity that serves as a set of eyes and ears in one of the 36 parks located in the City of Corona. Requires a regular weekly or monthly schedule and a commitment of at least 6 months. Click here for more information!

Volunteer Trail Guides
(+18)

Volunteer Trail Guides will work alongside the City’s team of Park Rangers to educate program participants in the flora and fauna of the Cleveland National Forest.

Youth Sports Coach
(18+)

Volunteers would coach a team of twelve participants in the Basketball, Indoor Soccer, or Volleyball programs hosted by Corona Recreation. Each season requires a 6–8-week commitment, minimum of 3 hours a week. Knowledge of the sport or commitment to learn the sport is a requirement.
