2/16/23 Street Closure Alert:
Project Overview:
The Alcoa Dike Phase II “Project” is a United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) project to be constructed in partnership with the County of Orange. The Project is part of a larger effort to increase water storage capacity behind Prado Dam and improve flood protection. Phase II of the Alcoa Dike project extends and connects the earthen dikes constructed between Butterfield Drive, Rincon Street, and Auburndale Street. Construction began in December 2021 and is scheduled to be complete by March 2024. The finished project will eliminate the commonly experienced flooding and closure of Rincon Street west of Smith Avenue to the Temescal Wash bridge and protect local businesses along Smith Avenue and Rincon Road and includes a new bike trail.
What you can Expect:
• Rincon Street closure - beginning February 22, 2023, there will be a six-month closure along Rincon Street to allow Army Corps to complete the dike construction and new Rincon Street roadway realignment over the new dike.
• Access to the Corona Municipal Airport and Butterfield Park will remain throughout the duration of the Rincon Street closure and throughout the project construction.
• Continue to detour traffic along River Road to Lincoln throughout the Rincon Steet Closure.
