CORONA POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN CAR-TO-CAR SHOOTING

Corona, CA - On January 15, 2025, Corona Police investigators arrested a suspect involved in a car-to-car shooting that occurred after a minor traffic collision on January 14, 2025.

Officers initially responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon after a citizen reported being shot at while driving. The victim stated he was on Promenade Avenue when a white Nissan Pathfinder drove into the bike lane and sideswiped his vehicle. When the victim pulled alongside the Nissan to confront the driver, the suspect lowered his window and pointed a handgun at him. Fearing for his safety, the victim immediately drove away and lost sight of the suspect vehicle. Upon meeting with officers, bullet fragments confirmed that a single gunshot had struck the victim’s rear passenger window.

The Corona Police Department’s Investigative Services Division took over the case, and with critical contribution from the new Real Time Information Center (RTIC) and the Vice, Narcotics, and Intelligence (VNI) unit, the vehicle was located. The suspect was identified as Ruben Durame, 36-years-old of Corona.

Due to Durame’s violent behavior and the use of a firearm, the department’s Special Response Team (SRT) was activated to serve a search warrant in the 3900 block of Bennett Avenue, Corona, where Durame was taken into custody without incident. A 9mm handgun was later located in Durame’s vehicle.

This marks the second major case within a week where RTIC’s assistance played a crucial role in the successful arrest of a suspect. The coordinated efforts of all involved led to the safe apprehension demonstrating the effectiveness of the Real Time Information Center.
