Did you know a permit is required in order to conduct a garage or yard sale in the City of Corona?
The following information is a guide to help you through the permit process and avoid any code violations. These requirements have been set forth in the Corona Municipal Code Ordinance Number 5.44.010 through 5.44.110.

Corona Municipal Code 5.44.010 Definitions.

(A) "Garage sale" means all general sales, open to the public, conducted from or on a premises in any residential or mobile home zone for the purpose of disposing of personal property, including, but not limited to, all sales entitled, advertised or called "garage," "lawn," "yard" "attic," "porch," "room," "backyard," "patio," "flea market" or "rummage" sale. This definition does not include the holding out for sale of five or less specific items when all advertisement thereof specifically denominates them.
(B) "Personal property" means property which is owned, utilized or maintained by an individual or members of his or her residence or family and acquired in the normal course of living in or maintaining a residence. It does not include merchandise which was purchased for resale or obtained on consignment.
Rules and Regulations
SIGNS: Posting signs is a key element to ensuring a successful sale. Per Corona Municipal code 17.74.200, no more than two signs are allowed on the premises where the sale is held, and no more than two additional signs off premises. Please be sure to get permission from the property owners where the signs are placed. In addition, do not place signs on utility poles, light poles, utility boxes, stop signs, or mail boxes. Don't forget to remove your signs after your sale is concluded. Failure to do so could result in a citation being issued to you.
DISPLAY OF GOODS: A proper display of your sale items can entice potential buyers. Please don't block the sidewalk, parkway, or any other area within the public right-of-way, as this could be a health and safety hazard.
POSTING OF PERMIT: Make sure to post your permit on the premises of the sale while in progress. It shall be visible from the nearest public street.
NUMBER OF SALES PER YEAR: The City of Corona only allows three (3) sales per year per applicant or location.
SUMMARY OF INVENTORY: When applying for your permit, be sure to list the personal property that you will be selling.

Complying with these regulations will avoid the issuance of an Administrative Citation which carries fines of $25.00 for the first offense, $50.00 for the second offense, and $100.00 for the third. Good luck with your sale!
